RYA VHF Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC) Course

Course Aim
This radio operator qualification authorises the holder to operate a VHF radio
fitted with Digital Selective Calling (DSC) on board any British vessel which is
voluntarily fitted with radio equipment.

1 day course including exam.

Prior experience required
None, though learning the phonetic alphabet before the course is a great advantage.

- General knowledge of VHF communications in the maritime mobile service
- Detailed working & knowledge of radio equipment
- Operational procedures of the GMDSS
- Detailed practical operation of GMDSS subsystems & equipment
- Operational procedures & regulations for VHF communications

- Urgency situations
- Safety situations
- Routine communication
The course costs from £90 per person, and is run in our classroom at
Cobb's Quay, Poole. In addition, there is a fee for the RYA certification of £25 per person, and the candidate also needs to bring along a passport-sized photo to send off with the application form.
