RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance Course

    The aim of the course is to give an awareness of the main systems of a marine diesel engine, and the ability to take simple measures to prevent mechanical breakdown at sea which do not require workshop support.

    • The four-stroke cycle
    • Fuel system
    • Cooling system
    • Air systems
    • Engine electrical systems
    • Spares and tool requirements
    • Importance of winterisation and servicing
    • Fault finding

The course is run in our classroom at Cobb's Quay, Poole, and a marine diesel engine (not necessarily in working condition) is supplied for practical sessions. The course costs £95 per person, and are run throughout the year. One-to-one tuition is also available, and can be done on your own boat, paying particular relevance to your own diesel engine.
